2degrees announced as first sponsor for Auckland FC women's team
2degrees has been announced as the foundation sponsor of Auckland FC's women's team, ahead of the team's entry into the A-League Women's competition in 2027.
Auckland FC's women's side is set to make its debut in the league in 2027, and 2degrees will be supporting the team as a key partner from the early stages of its formation.
Anna Gorman, Senior Sponsorship & Community Manager at 2degrees, explained the reasoning behind the early commitment to the newly formed squad.
"Although the women's team won't take the field until the 2027 season, it was a no-brainer for us to get on board now," says Anna Gorman, Senior Sponsorship & Community Manager at 2degrees.
Gorman stated that the partnership forms part of a greater effort to create more opportunities in women's sport across New Zealand through the company's SupportHER initiative.
SupportHER brings together all 2degrees women-in-sport programmes and aims to provide guidance and resources to parents, coaches and supporters, as well as to advocate for female athletes at all levels.
"Backing Auckland FC's women's team is a natural extension of our commitment to advancing equity in women's sport in Aotearoa, and we're excited to be part of the journey from the very beginning."
Gorman added that committing early to women's sport is vital to ensure its future growth and stability.
"We believe that making this commitment now is essential to helping women's sport build on its momentum and thrive in the years ahead. Through AFC and SupportHER, we're proud to help lift the profile of women's sport in this country."
2degrees has confirmed that it will continue in its role as Auckland FC's official telecommunications partner for the 2025/26 A-League Men's season. The partnership follows a successful inaugural season for Auckland FC's men's team, in which they won the Premiership.
The company will remain alongside Auckland FC as the club prepares for the defence of its title in the upcoming season, with the first match scheduled for October 2025.
Mark Callendar, CEO of 2degrees, reflected on the shared spirit between the company and the football club over the past season.
"Last season was an incredible start for Auckland FC, and we're proud to have been part of their journey from day one. Like AFC, 2degrees was built with a challenger spirit, and we're excited to be back supporting the fans, players, and community who make this club so special."
Auckland FC CEO Nick Becker also commented on the continuing partnership and the role that 2degrees has played during the club's early years.
"2degrees has been a fantastic partner in our inaugural season, helping us stay connected with our growing fanbase and community."
He added, "They're a bold New Zealand brand with a focus on doing right by Kiwis, and a shared passion for challenging the status quo. We're delighted to continue the partnership as we head into our second season."
Both organisations have signalled their intention to support the development and visibility of women's and men's football in Auckland, as well as a broader commitment to supporting local communities and elevating women's sport nationwide.
