2degrees launches IDEOS X5

2degrees has released the Android 2.2-powered IDEOS X5 in New Zealand for $549.

The smartphone was launched internationally at the CES show in Las Vegas last month.

“This is the one you’ve been waiting for,” beamed Larrie Moore, Chief Marketing Officer at 2degrees. “If you have been after a top of the line smartphone, but daunted by the price, this is the phone for you.”

The IDEOS X5 is said to be the third and highest-spec smartphone in the company’s growing fleet of devices running Android 2.2.

Moore added, “The IDEOS X5 offers an outstanding mobile internet experience thanks to the large high-definition 3.8 inch capacitive touch screen, and a Qualcomm 800MHz Snapdragon processor.”

Key features at a glance:

  • Android 2.2 (FroYo) operating system

  • HSDPA 7.2Mbps

  • 5.0 megapixel camera and LED flash, with 720p HD video capture capability

  • 2GB of user on board memory, with MicroSD (up to 32GB)

  • Available in either black or white (white available in late March though)

  • Wifi hotspot will be available via a software update by the end of May

Last November 2degrees launched Huawei's original IDEOS for $379.
