I’ve always considered Ghost n’ Goblins to be the hardest game I’ve ever played. No matter how hard I try, I’ve never been able to complete it. But it’s been dethroned: Ace Armstrong vs. The Alien Scumbags is now the hardest game I’ve ever played.
There are three difficulties for you to choose from: Rookie, Pro and Elite. You can forget about playing the game on Pro and Elite, as you won’t even pass the first level ; that’s how insanely hard this game really is! Full disclosure: No matter how hard I tried, I only got as far as the first boss.
The main problem with this game is that there are no checkpoints, and you only have five lives with which to battle all the aliens and the final boss. The trouble is that all your lives will have already gone by the time you face the end-of-level boss.
Alien ships come frequently and you have to avoid everything from enemy lasers to buildings and other obstacles. To help ease things a little, you can upgrade the firepower of your lasers. Unfortunately, ammo for the upgraded laser will eventually wear off, and then you’re back to using the weaker laser blaster…
Ace Armstrong vs. The Alien Scumbags is not a poorly made game; it’s just that the game is too hard for anybody to play. Graphically, the game’s cel-shaded animations look like it has been ripped straight out of a comic book. The controls are easy enough to just pick up and play, but the difficulty is so high that I doubt anyone will have the patience and skill to complete this game.
Only really hardcore gamers may find this game enjoyable to any degree. For everyone else, avoid this game completely and maintain your sanity.
