FYI, this story is more than a year old

Android has continued its dominance in the smartphone market, outselling Apple's iPhone by four to one in new figures released today.

Findings from research company IDC says nearly 105 million Android smartphones were sold during the April-June quarter, taking up 68% of the global market.

Both Blackberry and Symbian phones dropped in share value while Apple's iconic iPhone fell slightly to 17%, with a new release expected within the next few months.

The results confirms Samsung as the leading smartphone maker, helping Google extend it's dominance in the market, as the South Korean company shipped 50.2 million smartphones in the quarter, compared to Apple's 26 million.

With the smartphone industry now a two horse race for supremacy, the results of the current Apple v Samsung patent lawsuit case carries even more significance as the mobile giants clash over alleged design infringements.
