Microsoft's monthly Patch Tuesday is a big one, containing 13 security bulletins to fix 26 vulnerabilities in Windows and Office.Four of the updates are rated as ‘critical', which usually means they could allow hackers into your computer to control it remotely.

Most Windows users will get the fixes through the regular automatic updates. When you get the notification that the updates are available, you may be required to install them straight away because of the critical nature of the problems that need fixing.

Shut down any applications you have running and apply the updates. You'll need to restart your computer once they're installed. If you don't get the automatic updates, the patches are available.
