Antivirus launches for Mac OS X

FYI, this story is more than a year old

BitDefender has released its first antivirus solution designed specifically for Mac OS X users.

According to the firm, Antivirus for Mac protects Mac systems from viruses, while also detecting and removing malware threats. It is also said to protect against threats targeting other platforms which can then pass through to Mac.

“Although there are fewer threats targeted towards Mac users, it only takes one infection to lose sensitive information, valuable data or an identity. It’s critical that businesses and consumers recognise the growing vulnerability of their Mac systems and take the necessary steps to protect their sensitive information to ensure their system remains safe,” said Catalin Cosoi, BitDefender Senior Researcher.

Key features include:

  • Real-time antivirus protection that quickly checks files and system critical areas.
  • Intelligent scanning and a small memory footprint: low impact on your computer’s speed.
  • Scheduled scanning capabilities, a quarantine zone and free 24/7 technical support.
