The AOC I2781FH – beauty on a budget
Thu, 9th Jun 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

In modern devices, there seems to be a constant push for thinner, smaller technology. No doubt you can remember the monitors of old with small screen sizes and huge inner workings, resulting in little to no workspace.

Those days are well and truly done, with stunning monitors like the AOC 12781FH.

This elegant 27-inch display boasts a stylish metal asymmetrical base and ultra-thin 9.9mm profile for a modern, minimal look. This isn't to mention the near borderless screen (what AOC refers to as ‘Infinity Glass) that gives the impression the screen is floating above your desktop. It has an ultra-narrow bezel at just 2mm with a 9mm panel black matrix.

This monitor is truly beautiful, and unlike its early relatives, won't be an eye-sore in the office or home – on the contrary, it will add elegance. There are white and black versions available.

And it's not just all looks. The built-in headphone jack, VGA and HDMI (x2) connectors make it a breeze to hook up your computer and other devices.

A cool feature is the advanced IPS technology that AOC has put into this monitor, which allows exquisite, uniform colour at even the most wide viewing angles. This is in addition to the Flicker Free Backlight innovation. Most LED monitors use an older technology to control brightness (pulse width modulation). This pulsing can create flickers that may cause discomfort, headaches and eye strain. AOC's solution eliminates that problem, even in low light environments.

The monitor also comes bundled with Screen+ software, which allows you to split your monitor workspace into four self-contained panes for maximum productivity – this software also supports multiple monitors.

Here are some of the basic attributes:

  • Resolution: 1920x1080
  • Panel size: 27”
  • Response time: 5ms
  • Contrast ratio: 1000:1
  • Viewing angle (H/V) 178/178
  • SRP NZD $449

The monitor looks elegant, does the basics well and is affordable. It's a monitor that would suit everyone, from gaming, to personal user to office use, effectively targeting the largest part of the market. It really is beauty on a budget.
