FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple has announced that more than 100,000 apps are currently available on its iTunes App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

It’s taken the store less than 16 months of operation to reach this milestone figure. Games constitute the highest proportion of the available applications at over 16,000. There are also more than 13,000 books, 2700 navigation programs, 1200 medical applications and 442 weather applications.

The App Store has enjoyed more than 2 billion downloads across 20 categories from 77 countries to date. The store charts an average of 10,000 downloads per day.

“The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications available, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating.”
