Apple invites press to new iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 event

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple is strongly expected to unveil a new version of its full-sized iPad next week, along with a new iPad Mini.

After months of speculation regarding Cupertino's new wave of tablet releases, an official invitation has been sent to the press.

With the tagline "We still have a lot to cover", many are suggesting the brightly coloured invite could be an indication of things to come.

Apple will host an invitation-only event on October 22, when it is now believed the tech giant will announce the new products.

Coming a day before Microsoft begins shipping the new Surface 2 model, AllThingsD claims Cupertino will use the media gathering to unveil a few more new products before the year is finished.

“The focal point of the gathering will be the latest updates to the company’s iPad line, but the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will likely get some stage time as well, I’m told," AllThingsD writer John Paczkowski reported last week.

The event, which clashes with Nokia’s Innovation Reinvented showcase, and comes a day after Microsoft’s new Surface 2 starts shipping, follows a similar launch date last year – on October 23.
