FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple has officially registered iMessage as a trademark, over a year after first submitting the name for review.

According to Patently Apple, the tech giant registered the company's newest trademark on November 20, with the name first submitted in September 2011.

Officially launched in June 2011, Apple labelled the iMessage as:

"If you’re a texter, you’ll love Messages on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

"Now they all come with iMessage, a service that’s an even better kind of texting.

"Because it’s free for you and anyone texting over Wi-Fi using an iOS device or Mac with iMessage.

"And it’s unlimited. So say as much as you want."

The same article also claims the company has now submitted its fourth Passbook-related trademark application, covering the app's icon under International Classification 035.
