Thu, 2nd Sep 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

As expected, Apple has announced a new iPod touch at a special event that was held overnight in the US.

Among the announcements was confirmation that the next generation of iPod touches would feature Apple's Retina display, FaceTime video calling, HD video recording, Apple's A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1 and Game Center.

“We've put our most advanced technology inside the new iPod touch,” said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. “Whether you're listening to music, playing games, making FaceTime video calls, browsing the web, capturing HD video or watching movies, the new iPod touch with its Retina display, A4 chip and 3-axis gyro is more fun than ever.

The Retina display has 960 x 640 pixels, which is four times as many pixels than before if you're keeping count.

There's a new front-facing camera and mic so that iPod touch users can make FaceTime video calls over Wi-Fi.

For those that want to take advantage of HD video recording and editing you'll have to download iMovie app for $6.49.

The launch is as soon as next week and the new models come with an RRP of $379 for the 8GB model, $489 for the 32GB model and $649 for the 64GB model.
