FYI, this story is more than a year old

Qantas has jumped aboard the Apple Watch movement, with its mobile app now ‘Apple Watch ready'.

The app will enable Qantas customers to receive notifications telling them of gate changes, what carousel to collect baggage from and up-to-the-minute information on their journey.

Customers will also be able to view a summary of their next trip, real-time updates about flight schedule, departure gate and boarding times, waiting time in transit airports and which lounges can be accessed and frequent flyer account summary.

In-flight the app can be used to view time-zones of both departure and arrival destinations.

Steve Limbrick, Qantas executive manager of customer and commercial, says the Australian airline is committed to using technology to enhance customer experience.

“We're thrilled to be one of the first Australian companies to feature our app on the Apple Watch,” Limbrick says.

“Our customers tell us they love the Qantas app for its efficiency and convenience and the smooth check-in process it enables.

“The Qantas app for Apple Watch is the next step in making our customer's journey even smoother and more efficient.

Limbrick says the Apple Watch app will mean customers can easily view travel notifications even if their phone is in their pocket or carry-on luggage.

The highly anticipated wearable goes on sale in a limited number of countries, including Australia, from 24 April. No launch date has been set for New Zealand as yet.

Air New Zealand announced a similar app offering for Apple Watch on the day the device was launched earlier this month.
