Apple's antenna boss fired?
Mon, 9th Aug 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Senior Apple VP Mark Papermaster (pictured) is reported to have been fired from the company following Antennagate.

Papermaster was Senior Vice President of Devices Hardware Engineering at Apple, he replaced Tony Fadell who was responsible for the team that created the iPod.

Before Apple he worked at IBM from 1982–2008 and his last position at IBM was as VP of IBM's blade server division. In 2008, Papermaster's move from IBM to Apple became a court case over an employee non-compete clause in the technology industry.

Both Apple and Papermaster have so far refused to comment on the reasons behind his departure.

That hasn’t stopped the world of Apple spectators suggesting that Papermaster was fired over the recent PR disaster that’s caught the nickname ‘Antennagate’.

Apple commenter John Gruber posted a blog saying, “From what I’ve heard, it’s clear he was sacked. Papermaster was a conspicuous absence at the Antennagate press conference. Inside Apple, he’s “the guy responsible for the antenna” — that’s a quote from a source back on July 23. (Another quote from the same source: “Apparently the antenna guys used to have a big chip on their shoulder. No more.”).
