BizDojo & Talent NZ offer specialised recruitment services for tech startups

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Startups that struggle to find tech talent now have a way of recruiting skilled staff, thanks to a new partnership with BizDojo and Talent NZ.

Since the beginning of this month, a Talent recruitment advisor has been working out of BizDojo Auckland. The advisor's top goals are to help startups with creating job descriptions, CV screening, onboarding process development and advice about staff retention.

While the partnership is operating in Auckland at this stage, it has plans to expand to other centres.

Talent Auckland general manager Kara Smith says that one of the major issues startups face is recruitment. HR comes secondary to their core focus and skills – and often it is expensive.

“It's a challenge for any start-up attracting and retaining skilled staff. Talent wants to help start-ups navigate this process by providing free of charge advice on compensation structure, staff incentives and workplace culture to some of our most progressive best innovators and entrepreneurs,” she explains.

BizDojo activation manager Eva Perrone says that on-hand recruitment expertise will be a valuable resource for early stage entrepreneurs and scaling startups.

“The advice shared with start-up Founders helps get them on the right track for business growth and avoid painful mistakes later. Talent offers a collaborative approach, with massive amounts of knowledge and enthusiasm for the start-up ecosystem,” Perrone adds.

The BizDojo and Talent partnership is part of Talent's global $1 million Talent First Fund – a specially-designed fund to help the startup sector with discounted, deferred recruitment and HR advisory services.

In June, BizDojo cofounder Jonah Merchant spoke about the company's new Founders Central initiative.

The initiative consists of four projects: a mental wellness project, investor intelligence training; another in conjunction with ZeroPoint Ventures and a project that builds a supportive community for Founders Central.

“While we are committed to spinning up programmes off our own dime over time we are also acknowledging that we cannot do this in isolation. The only way that we can move the dial is to work as a collective,” Merchant said at the time.

Talent will also be hosting the Talent Unleashed Awards 2017, a global award ceremony that recognise entrepreneurs and businesses that are pioneering innovation. Kiwi businesses are invited to enter the awards.

Judges include Richard Branson and Steve Wozniak for the global ceremony. Kiwi entrepreneurs Francis Valintine and Daniel Radcliffe will judge the APAC awards.
