A man has been charged with the burglary of Steve Job’s family home after more than US$60,000 in computers and jewellery was stolen.

Kariem McFarlin was alleged to have broken into the late Apple co-founder’s property on July 17, when the house was vacant during renovations.

McFarlin is accused of robbery along with selling stolen property after seizing computers and personal items from the property in Palo Alto, California.

With a $500,000 bail, McFarlin was arrested on August 2 and could face up to seven years and eight months imprisonment if found guilty.

McFarlin, who faces a plea hearing on August 20, did not appear to know the house belonged to Jobs.

"We don't have any evidence to show his house was targeted," says Scott Tsui, Santa Clara County prosecutor.

"All we know is that it was a random burglary that can happen to people."
