City quartet receives UFB upgrade
Fri, 15th Feb 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Orcon has launched UFB in four additional cities across New Zealand, allowing access to the country's new $1.5bn network.

Residents and businesses in the Invercargill, Wanganui, New Plymouth and Tauranga areas now join 13 other areas capable of accessing the new fibre-optic network.

When pressed as to when and where the next installations will take place in New Zealand, the company was unexpectedly coy, with a spokesperson telling TechDay:

"Unfortunately we can't say where next but the aim is to be everywhere as soon as possible.

"If we say where we aim to be next we constantly have to manage expectations with potential customers wanting to know when."

But Orcon GM Taryn Hamilton remained excited by the launch, saying: “Fibre is going to revolutionise the way we lead our lives – from entertainment, to education, to social services, and especially business.

"We want people to experience how exciting UFB is, tell their friends, and get the fever for this fantastic new technology.

“We’re convinced that ultra-fast broadband will make businesses more competitive, and people in these areas can find out if fibre is in their street and sign up for UFB."
