Core Education looks to empower Maori with e-learning
At the beginning of next month, Core Education is hosting an event called, 'Modern Pathways to Raising Maori Achievement'.
Targeted at teachers and leaders in both primary and secondary schools, the seminar will explore ways schools can create environments to empower Maori students, and will look at how technology can aid this.
Speaker Janelle Riki will discuss several avenues of support for school leaders and teachers as well as how e-learning can be used as a vehicle to raise engagement and achievement.
More specifically, the seminar will:
- Explore the use of e-learning tools and strategies to engage Maori students
- Discuss the resources available to assist schools to become more culturally responsive to the needs of Maori learners and the family
- Explore the use of e-tools by Maori students
- Discuss the place of the Treaty of Waitangi in education
'Modern Pathways to Raising Maori Achievement' will take place May 8 from 7:30am-8:45am, at the Te Tuhi Arts Centre in Pakuranga, Auckland, which seats 100. It costs $40+GST.
Janelle Riki is a trained primary teacher who has worked in both English-medium and bilingual settings.
She is currently the South Island Team Leader in the Learning with Digital Technologies PLD programme and supports many schools and Māori-medium kura to utilise e-learning as a vehicle towards success for Māori students, as Māori students.
