Costco teams up with DoorDash for home delivery in Auckland
A new partnership between DoorDash and Costco will allow Aucklanders to receive bulk shopping deliveries directly to their homes without needing a store visit or membership.
This collaboration introduces Costco to the DoorDash platform, broadening its service offerings to include a range of groceries and household essentials with flexible delivery options including same-day or pre-scheduled deliveries. These offerings are available to both existing Costco members and non-members, marking a shift in accessibility to bulk shopping.
The partnership features the use of DoorDash's "Shop and Deliver" technology, designed to facilitate seamless shopping experiences by enabling Dashers, the company's delivery personnel, to handle the entire shopping process from picking items to delivery. This model is positioned as a potential game-changer for various types of retailers, suggesting opportunities for integration beyond grocery stores to include pharmacies, pet supply stores, and beauty retailers among others.
DoorDash New Zealand General Manager, Bradley Thomas, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: "At DoorDash, we want to continue to deliver effortless convenience and affordability, so our customers get the best of both worlds, every time." He further noted, "We're always looking for ways to make everyday shopping easier, and our partnership with Costco means Aucklanders can now get incredible value and quality delivered straight to their doorstep."
Chris Tingman, Country Manager for Costco, echoed these sentiments: "Our members love the savings and convenience of shopping both in bulk and for everyday items, and we're thrilled to make it even easier with DoorDash. This partnership gives members greater access to Costco's quality products and value, knowing that busy lifestyles call for more convenient ways to tackle the weekly shop."
As a promotional gesture, New Zealand customers are being offered a $20 discount off their first Costco order through DoorDash, provided they spend a minimum of NZD $150. This offer is subject to specific terms and conditions.
This initiative represents a significant expansion of DoorDash's services in New Zealand, tapping into the growing demand for app-based delivery services that simplify the convenience of consumer goods access. By leveraging established retail brands like Costco, DoorDash aims to meet the consumer demand for easy, affordable, and flexible shopping solutions.
