Dotcom prepares for Mega launch party
Fri, 18th Jan 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Kim Dotcom is preparing to launch his Mega.co.nz site this weekend, through a celebratory party at his Coatesville mansion.

The Megaupload founder gave ten tickets away to the party, with past users eagerly anticipating the release.

"Kim Dotcom is a hero, he is man of the people. I used Megaupload everyday before it got shut down," mortgage broker Nick Alcock told Stuff.

But after advertisements for the site were pulled by Mediaworks this week due to "commercial reasons", Dotcom took his promotion to new levels - offering "mega" ice cream to fans outside an Auckland parlour.

"It is really going to be something spectacular," Dotcom said.

"In the dark ages enemies of progress burned books, now today they are burning websites.

"Mega is going to be the website to end all that.

"It's not even launched yet and they (the film and music industry) are saying its all evil.

"But the site is really innovative, we have invented things the Internet hasn't seen before."

Promising an event "like no other", the site will be launched on the day marking the year anniversary since the police raid on his New Zealand mansion.
