Dropbox to launch new proxy server in ANZ region
Wed, 7th Jun 2017
FYI, this story is more than a year old

File sharing and collaboration platform Dropbox is boosting investment in the ANZ region, announcing that it is deploying a 'Point-of-Presence' ('PoP') in Sydney, Australia.

The PoP will act as a proxy server in the region and will further enhance the leading-edge performance of Dropbox as well as complement existing built-in technologies like LAN Sync and Delta Sync to further boost upload and download speeds.

The proxy will be available to all users and will be seamlessly deployed within the next two months.

The investment comes off the back of unprecedented growth across the ANZ region, with 44% of the ASX 200 having a Dropbox Business account (up from 34% last year), and 99% of ASX200 companies having a Dropbox footprint of some kind.

New figures also reveal that Australian and New Zealand businesses lead the world when it comes to file collaboration.

Adoption of Dropbox's collaborative workspace, Paper, is amongst the highest in ANZ than anywhere in the world.

Furthermore, international file sharing has doubled in three years with 40.8% of local businesses now sharing files globally via Dropbox (compared to 21.1% in 2014).

Commenting on the growth, Dropbox APAC solutions architecture head Daniel Iversen says the shift reflects the importance of collaboration in this part of the world: “In a small and isolated market like ANZ, global collaboration is becoming the secret sauce in driving innovation and competitive differentiation.

“Our data shows that Dropbox is being used by ANZ companies to increase their innovation capacity.

“More businesses are seeking better ways to break down silos and get teams working better together,” Iversen says.

“Workplace communication and collaboration is still extremely fragmented, with people on average using four to five communication channels a day.

“This represents a huge opportunity to make collaboration simple and effective through a single platform,” he says.

Companies of all sizes and across different industries are realising the importance of collaboration.

New customers like Built, Toyota, Kogan, and Airtasker have all started to use Dropbox to enhance workplace collaboration.
