E3 2017: Square Enix announces ever-expanding FFXV universe and latest Life is Strange instalment
Thu, 15th Jun 2017
FYI, this story is more than a year old

With last year's release of a full-scale CG movie Kingslaive: Final Fantasy XV and an original anime series, the FINAL FANTASY XV universe continues to expand its universe with stunning new reveals at this week's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

The latest projects from the universe include:

FINAL FANTASY XV main game:

Support for new hardware including Xbox One X, first showcased at this year's Xbox E3 2017 Briefing. FINAL FANTASY XV also supports PlayStation 4 Pro. “FINAL FANTASY XV: EPISODE PROMPTO” DLC, where players can experience an all-new episode playing as Prompto on June 27.

Future DLC episodes include “FINAL FANTASY XV: EPISODE IGNIS” and “Multiplayer Expansion: Comrades.” Free updates and new content, including the “Regalia Type-D” update, planned for release on 27th June.

This new update gives the player greater freedom to drive the Regalia off-road through various environments.

New Projects:

MONSTER OF THE DEEP: FINAL FANTASY XV, a new fishing action PlayStation®VR game unveiled at the PlayStation E3 Media Showcase and set to release this September.

KING'S KNIGHT –Wrath of the Dark Dragon–, a new action RPG mobile game featuring a completely new story and world with multiplayer support for up to four players.

This app will be available in 2017 for iOS and Android devices.

Square Enix also announced LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM, the next game in the award-winning episodic franchise.

The game was unveiled with a new cinematic trailer as part of the Xbox E3 Briefing and the first of three episodes will be released on Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system and Windows PC on August 31, 2017.

LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is set in Arcadia Bay, three years before the events of the first game in the series.

Players will take on the role of a rebellious 16-year-old Chloe Price who forms an unlikely friendship with Rachel Amber; a beautiful and popular girl destined for success.

When Rachel's world is turned upside down by a family secret, it takes this new-found alliance to give each other the strength to overcome their demons.

“LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is a key release for Square Enix this year and is being created as a direct response to fans asking to return to Arcadia Bay so they can revisit the characters they fell in love with,” says Square Enix London Studios studio head Lee Singleton.

“Many people can identify a particular person who significantly influenced their life; the person that ultimately shaped who they became. LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is about this exact moment.

Whilst the first released game in the series was created by DONTNOD Entertainment in Paris, LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is being developed by Denver-based studio, Deck Nine Games.

“The original LIFE IS STRANGE brought a new level of depth and real-world emotion to the narrative adventure game genre and holds a strong place in many people's hearts, including our own,” says  -Deck Nine Games vice president Jeff Litchford.

“It's an absolute privilege to work on the next game in the series and it's our chance to do justice to the series and prove the quality of our unique StoryForge toolset from our very talented team.
