ICT qualifications offered by polytechnics and private providers nationwide are under review by the Institute of IT Professionals and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
Feedback is now sought on the proposed structure of ICT qualifications at levels 1-6, which will replace current computing and IT qualifications.
NZQA is encouraging all stakeholders and interested parties to get involved and share their thoughts on the future of ICT qualifications in New Zealand by July 12th.
According to NZQA there is currently a wide range of ICT qualifications, with many apparently similar qualifications at the same level. The review aims to reduce duplication and streamline available qualifications, and ensure they are relevant and valuable to both students and employers.
Depending on the feedback received, the qualifications, or a revised version, will be developed by working groups in late July, with a further consultation on the qualifications to be held in August. Once approved, the new qualifications will replace all other level 1-6 IT-related qualifications.
Expressions of interest are also being sought from those who want to be part of the working groups to develop the new qualifications.
