FYI, this story is more than a year old

FileMaker has unveiled an app for iPhone and iPad (which goes on sale this Friday) that allows users to work remotely with FileMaker Pro databases.

The apps allow you to view, edit and search for information in databases created with FileMaker Pro and hosted on FileMaker Server or FileMaker Pro.

The app can access databases on a Mac or PC using a local wireless network or over the internet via Wi-Fi or 3G. All changes are instantly updated in the hosted file.

“Imagine being able to check inventory levels, update the status of a project or add a new customer contact and share it with your remote sales team, just a few of the many workgroup tasks made easy with FileMaker Go for iPhone or iPad,” said Steve McManus, Regional Manager, FileMaker Asia Pacific.

Users can also copy databases between their computers and FileMaker Go via File Sharing in iTunes. Databases can also be downloaded by email, file sharing sites and the web.

According to the company “many popular” FileMaker Pro features are supported including Tab controls, Quick Find, Web Viewers, External SQL Data Sources, containers, portals and even most scripts.

FileMaker Go is out now on the iTunes store and will set you back NZ$49.99. You’ll need an iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4 or an iPad running IOS 3.2.
