Film review: How to Train Your Dragon 2

Wed, 16th Jul 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Whether you require ideas on how to become the master of a dragon, you love amazing animation or you simply feel like viewing a fantastic movie you need to make sure you catch the latest offering from DreamWorks – How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Directed by Dean DeBlois and incorporating a talented voice cast including Gerard Butler, Cate Blanchett and Jonah Hill, this movie picks up five years after the end of the original film and focuses on Hiccup, son of the Viking Chief, as he struggles with the idea of taking over the Kingdom of Berk from his father Stoick the Vast.

Throw into the mix a classic ‘good vs evil’ battle against the dreadful dragon hunter Drago Bludvist, who is determined to capture and enslave all the dragons in the world, and you have a movie that appeals to viewers of all ages, from small children who just want to see the dragons through to adults who get caught up in the story (and have to try and not to cry at one or two less-than-happy moments!)

The animation is supreme, with the 3D effect adding major excitement when the dragons are flying and doing tricks. The storyline is extremely well done, with jokes that appeal to adults and plenty of humour for the younger viewers too, and you are left with a fantastic feeling at the conclusion that is rare for both animated and live-action films. To top it off the musical score has been created by Academy Award-nominated John Powell, providing a true listening pleasure that perfectly accompanies the visual aspects of the movie.

If none of that grabs you then just go along and enjoy watching cute, animated dragons (especially the baby ones!!) and their human friends take on some bad guys! Because, really, what more do you need in life?
