First big change from new Apple CEO
Mon, 12th Sep 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

New Apple CEO Tim Cook has implemented his first major reversal in policy since taking over from Steve Jobs two weeks ago.

MacRumours reports that Cook last week announced a new charitable matching program within Apple, whereby the company will match dollar-for-dollar any gift from an employee to a non-profit organisation, up to a value of US$10,000.

The program will apply only to full-time US employees at first, although Cook says in a letter to employees that it will be expanded to other parts of the world over time.

The move comes just a week after the New York Times published a report questioning the lack of public philanthropy shown by Cook’s predecessor.

The report spurred much debate over Jobs' private character and the nature of philanthropy, but what is clear is that Cook is in charge now, and isn't afraid to do things his way.
