Foxtel announced for Xbox LIVE in Australia
Thu, 20th May 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

In a quick retaliation to Sony’s recent announcement of its MUBI movie app for PlayStation 3, Australian subscription TV broadcaster Foxtel has announced it will soon stream some channels via Xbox LIVE.

Xbox LIVE Gold subscribers will soon be able to stream a limited selection of Foxtel channels using their Xbox 360s as opposed to the traditional set-top box required for the service.  The partnership will even allow customers with no previous Foxtel access to use the service provided they have a broadband connection.

Details are thin on the ground at this stage. Xbox Australia’s Twitter account claims that details on subscription pricing, ISP unmetering agreements and exact launch timing are not yet available, but advises followers to “stay tuned”.

Game Console contacted Microsoft’s PR representatives to see if similar partnerships are in the works with any New Zealand subscription television services. The response was that “there is nothing to announce for NZ at this time! Stay tuned”.
