Free antivirus, firewall from Check Point
Wed, 2nd May 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Internet security firm Check Point is looking to trump the other free security software offerings available to consumers with its new ZoneAlarm antivirus & firewall bundle.

Launched today as a free download, ZoneAlarm combines a two-way firewall that monitors incoming and outgoing traffic to and from a PC with an antivirus engine which scans, detects and removes malicious programs.

The firewall is powered by Check Point’s DefenseNet cloud-based service. Features like parental control, 24/7 technical support, and PC optimisation can be purchased as add-ons.

Bari Abdul, vice president and head of ZoneAlarm for Check Point’s consumer arm, says a combination of antivirus and firewall software should constitute minimum security for the average consumer.

"Most consumers are unwittingly making themselves an easy target for cybercriminals,” Abdul says.

"They lack a strong two-way firewall, are unwilling or unable to pay for security, or they just have left their security on the backburner.

"By making ZoneAlarm antivirus & firewall free and convenient, we hope to spur a widespread internet security

movement that will help consumers better protect themselves from dangerous predators lurking online.”
