Galaxy S update delayed

Originally due out in Europe this month, Samsung UK has said that the long-awaited Galaxy S Android 2.2 Froyo update, which addresses Skype issues among others, has been delayed a month.

The delaye could mean New Zealanders won’t get the update until the end of the year.

Earlier this month Samsung told us, “The Froyo update will fix any Skype issues. Froyo will be available later this year (Nov/Dec time frame) for Samsung Galaxy S users to update via the Samsung desktop handset management application Kies.”

Since then though the UK office has delayed its launch without giving specifics: "The Froyo upgrade will be available in the UK from early November, and we expect all operator versions to be available by the end of November.”

We’ll contact Samsung here to see if there’ll be a knock-on effect for New Zealand. In the meantime, you can read up on what the update does here.

Update: At the moment Samsung doesn't seem to know when the update will be available here at all. We received this very non-committal response: "We will provide Galaxy S to be upgraded to Android 2.2 when the OS is available and Vodafone certifies it. We are committed to providing better mobile experience to the Galaxy S users."

We've asked again when that might be.
