FYI, this story is more than a year old

Google has released its Google Voice app to users with iPhones running iOS 3.1 or above.

Unfortunately Google Voice is available in the US only to begin with.

It was first rumoured in September that Apple had approved the official Google Voice application.

“Earlier this year we launched a Google Voice HTML5 web app for iPhone users,” said Christian Brunschen, Software Engineer. “Today we’re taking the Google Voice experience on the iPhone to a whole new level with the launch of the official Google Voice for iPhone app.”

The app gives users access to all major Google Voice features on your iPhone:

  • Cheap rates for international calls
  • Free text messaging to U.S. numbers
  • Voicemail transcription
  • Display your Google Voice number as caller ID when making calls
In addition push notifications will alert you instantly when you receive a new voicemail or text message.

We'll let you know when the app hits the New Zealand App Store. Can't be far off.
