Indie RPG Bastion coming to PC

The hit Xbox Live Winter of Arcade game, Bastion, is coming to PC.

Bastion’s release heralded another season of great titles for this year’s Xbox 360 Summer of Games (Winter of Games for us, downunder) on the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace.

Supergiant Games’ indie action RPG has been reformatted for the PC offering players the same gameplay as the 360 version, but with higher resolution graphics and an all-new control scheme devised especially for the PC.

Bastion has been lauded by critics for its unique narrative design style. The game received ten awards at this year’s E3, the Game Critics’ Awards for Best Downloadable Game, Game Informer Magazine’s award for Best Downloadable Game and G4tv.com’s award for Most Original Game.

Players purchasing the PC version of the game via Valve’s Steam service will be benefit from Steamworks support for cloud saves, enabling players to pick up and continue their game whether playing from their desktop PC or on the move for their notebook. The Steam version will also include achievements and online leaderboards.

The game charges players with rebuilding the titular Bastion, whilst navigating a 3D isometric world rendered in a painted-art style. The game’s visuals feel as if one of the 2D RPGs of yesteryear were rotated into 3D a view to provide an almost retro feel.

The Bastion takes a leaf out of Blizzard’s Diablo, in offering plenty of hack and slash opportunities. PC gamers will be provided with plenty of creatures to fight, weapons to customise and potions to mix. Throughout the game players are immersed in the story via a continuous spoken narration, like an interactive talking storybook.

Bastion is brought to us by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and is currently available for pre-order on Steam service for US$14.99. It will be released for download in Australia & NZ on Steam from August 17 before becoming available via other digital distribution retailers later in the month.
