Instagram - #selfielapse

Instagram has released an update to its video app Hyperlapse, giving users the ability to capture time-lapse videos using the front-facing camera on their mobile device. In other words, the #selfielapse is now a thing.

Creating a #selfielapse is as simple as tapping an icon on the app's home screen, which toggles between the front and rear-facing cameras. As before, a Hyperlapse video can be shared directly to your Instagram or Facebook account, or simply saved to your smartphone's camera roll to access later.

Perfecting the right #selfielapse may take some getting used to but here are some easy tips on creating some sweet videos:

• Stand still and have a moving background (i.e. CBD foot traffic, riding a roller coaster).
• Capture yourself walking down the street as your surroundings whirl by.
• Document transformations - getting a new haircut, applying makeup or tying a tie - by propping your phone up against a wall.
• Hold up your phone and get a great #selfielapse as you spin around in a chair, or jump on a trampoline.

Since launching on August 26, Hyperlapse has opened the door to new creative possibilities and inspired videos of everything from artists to the White House. So far, the most liked Hyperlapse shared to Instagram is this video by photographer David Guttenfelder for National Geographic.
