FYI, this story is more than a year old

Inspired by Gabriele Cirulli game available on the web, the 2048 app is a fun, addictive, very simple puzzle game. Join the numbers and get to the 2048 tile!

The objective is to slide tiles on a grid to combine them and create a tile with the number 2048. It is played on a simple grey 4×4 grid with tiles of varying colours overlaid that slide smoothly when a player moves them.

Swipe your screen to move tiles left, right, up, and down. If two tiles of the same number collide while moving, they will merge into a tile with the total value of the two tiles that collided.

Every turn, a new tile will randomly appear in an empty spot on the board with a value of either 2 or 4.The game is won when a tile with a value of 2048 appears on the board, hence the name of the game.

The game is pretty addictive. It's so simple you don't need a step-by-step guide nor do you need to be a genius to learn how to play. The game has been described by the Wall Street Journal as "almost like Candy Crush for math geeks".

It's had an update recently that has dramatically improved the playing quality. Your current game is auto-saved so will be restored each time you open the application.

There is a Facebook Friends Ranking where you can see the best scores of your Facebook friends playing the 2048 game. There are ads, so you'll have to purchase the game to go ad free.

Whether you're into numbers-based games over word games, I'd recommend giving this one a go just for a bit of variety. It's fun, it's addictive and it's challenging.
