Is new-look Intel in the TV business?
Mon, 1st Jul 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Now at the helm of Intel, CEO Brian Krzanich has remained cautious on growing rumours that the company will dive head-first into the Web TV subscription industry.

While admitting the company "continues to look at the business model" regarding Intel TV, Krzanich's lack of enthusiasm could quash any thoughts of an Intel TV.

“We’re being cautious. We’re experts in silicon, we’re experts in mobility, in driving Moore’s law,” Krzanich told Reuters in a recent TV interview.

“But we are not experts in the content industry and we’re being careful.”

Headed by Erik Huggers, Krzanich did not go as far to dismiss Intel TV outright, but his latest comments suggest any plans to move into the Web TV subscription space could still be far away.

“We believe we have a great user interface and the compression-decompression technology is fantastic," Krzanich added.

"But in the end, if we want to provide that service it comes down to content. We are not big content players.”
