iWatch out... Apple to predict heart attacks
Tue, 18th Feb 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple is developing sensor technology capable of predicting heart attacks, a feature which could be attached to the eagerly anticipated iWatch.

Focusing on the sound blood makes through a person’s arteries, the San Francisco Chronicle claims Apple’s forward thinking is “much bigger” than first expected.

“Apple is heavily exploring medical devices, specifically sensor technology that can help predict heart attacks,” the report states.

“Led by Tomlinson Holman, a renowned audio engineer who invented THX and 10.2 surround sound, Apple is exploring ways to predict heart attacks by studying the sound blood makes at it flows through arteries.”

According to the website, Cupertino is also exploring electric car avenues, with Apple’s head of mergers and acquisitions, Adrian Perica, allegedly meeting with electric car giant Tesla last week, speaking with CEO Elon Musk as rumours of an acquisition hit fever pitch.

Unsurprisingly both companies have downplayed the move, but that hasn’t stopped tech circles in the media second-guessing the tech giant’s next move.

“Taken together, Apple's potential forays into automobiles and medical devices, two industries worlds away from consumer electronics, underscore the company's deep desire to move away from iPhones and iPads and take big risks,” the report adds.
