FYI, this story is more than a year old

For the first ever Whittaker’s Big Egg Hunt – a giant urban Easter egg hunt to raise money for the Starship Foundation – Whittaker’s has launched a new mobile app, which is a key tool for hunters and a new way for Whittaker’s to engage with chocolate lovers.

Anyone can join the Whittaker’s Big Egg Hunt for 100 giant eggs decorated by top New Zealand artists and designers, hidden across the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch regions between 21 March and 22 April. All hunters will go in the draw for the grand prize of a unique 340g 18ct Gold Whittaker’s Slab.

Whittaker’s created the mobile app – which is available on Apple and Android devices – to make the supersized egg hunt as fun and interactive as possible. The app enables people to enter the competition to be in to win the Whittaker’s Gold Slab, win spot prizes, track their progress hunting the giant eggs and collecting points, as well as supporting interaction with friends and other hunters.

The more points people collect the more times they go in the draw to win the Gold Slab and the better their chances of taking out the regional and mystery prizes. The people who collect the most points in each of the three regions will win a year’s supply of Whittaker’s chocolate, while the person with the most points overall will win a luxury weekend for two in Queenstown.

The mobile app also features an innovative and fun augmented reality experience, which enables users to can scan an ‘Eggie’ code on selected eggs, or on Whittaker’s posters in-store, and an animated ‘Whittaker’s Wabbit’ appears on the screen.

Holly Whittaker said, “As a company with a track record of innovation, Whittaker’s is delighted to be one of New Zealand’s first FMCG producers to develop and launch a mobile app. We think it will be a great addition to The Big Egg Hunt, and it can be customised for use on future campaigns to engage with chocolate lovers.”

As well as developing the mobile app and offering prizes to help make the Whittaker’s Big Egg Hunt as successful here as it has been internationally, Whittaker’s is also committed to donating at least $150,000 to Starship. It is donating 10 cents from every iconic Whittaker’s 50g Peanut Slab, 20 cents from every pack of its top selling Fairtrade Creamy Milk block and 20 cents from its Creamy Milk Easter Mini Slabs sold throughout the hunt.
