LTE iPad rebranded as 'cellular'
Mon, 14th May 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Apple has altered the branding of its LTE-enabled iPad, in response to complaints from watchdogs in countries where differences in technology mean the device won’t run on existing LTE networks.

Formerly advertised on Apple’s website as the ‘iPad wi-fi + 4G’, the device is now listed as the ‘iPad wi-fi + cellular’.

The change has been implemented across the board, including in the US and Canada where the device is compatible with LTE.

Apple had previously posted updates to clarify that although the device wasn’t compatible with 4G in some countries, it would still run perfectly fine on 3G.

Telecom announced this morning that it will begin trialling 4G/LTE technology later this year; however, it could still be some time before we see a proper roll-out here.
