Metacritic launches iPhone and iPad game reviews

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Metacritic has announced that it has added iPhone and iPad games to its review coverage. According to Metacritic, it's done so in recognition of "the critical community's growing acceptance of the iOS platform as a legitimate, full-fledged gaming system whose games can compete with those designed for the more established, dedicated gaming systems".

Reviews for gaming apps on the iOS platform will now run alongside the usual aggregation of Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable reviews from some of the most respected sites on the Web.

Metacritic is increasingly recognised as an important compenet in the successful launch of video games, with a game's initial Metacritic average rating commonly cited as an early indicator of a game's success. In some cases, Metacritic's review aggregation even goes as far as to affect the share prices of publishers. Now iPhone and iPad games will enjoy the same scrutiny.
