FYI, this story is more than a year old

Australian navigation software providers MetroView have launched an app for the iPhone and iPad offering single-city navigation for visitors in town for the Rugby World Cup.

With data provided by kiwi firm GeoSmart, including up-to-date projects such as the new Auckland Upper Harbour motorway, the app also includes points of interest specific to the RWC, including fan zones, festival locations, stadia and training venues, and temporary accommodation sites.

GeoSmart sales - marketing manager Luigi Cappel says in a blog entry that the app is great value for tourists who may be staying in the same region as their national team and don't need to navigate the whole country.

"It is likely that the concept of buying maps for a single city will become more common in other countries,” Cappel says, "but you saw it here first in New Zealand.

The app costs $9.95 per city, or $49.99 for the whole country.
