Minister tackles bill shock
Thu, 27th May 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

“NewZealanders have expressed concern that the prices charged for internationalmobile roaming, and in particular data charges, are excessive and that pricingtransparency and consumer awareness of prices is low – leading to ‘billshock’,” says Joyce in a statement today.

“With thegreatest volume of roaming traffic occurring between New Zealand and Australia– approximately one million visitors travel annually from each country to theother – it is appropriate that we look at that market.”

Copies of the document and informationon the submission process, which closes Friday 2 July, are available here.

“Trans-Tasman mobile roaming has the potential tobring great benefits, on a personal level for individuals wanting to stayconnected, and on an economic level for companies doing business across theTasman. However these benefits will not be fully realised if the market is notfunctioning efficiently,” says Joyce.
