Mobile app revenue to rocket 60% by 2014
Wed, 15th Dec 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

According to IDC more than 300,000 mobile apps have been released in just over three years.

2010 saw mobile apps make the move from smartphones to tablets and looking into the future mobile apps will begin to crop up on other devices, including your TV.

IDC says the market for mobile applications is expected to increase from 10.9 billion worldwide in 2010 to a massive 76.9 billion in 2014. On the back of this growth, revenues are tipped to surpass US$35 billion in 2014.

"Mobile app developers will 'appify' just about every interaction you can think of in your physical and digital worlds," said Scott Ellison, vice president, Mobile and Wireless research at IDC.

"The extension of mobile apps to every aspect of our personal and business lives will be one of the hallmarks of the new decade with enormous opportunities for virtually every business sector."

That figure doesn't seem completely out of reach when you consider that Google alone is activating more than 300,000 Android phones every day.
