My cousin laughed at me the other day when I told her I cried when I saw Titanic for the first. She’s 13. She doesn’t understand.
She thought Divergent was sad and that One Direction are the most talented musicians on the face of the earth. Cleary, I need to spend more time with her and filter out these bad thoughts.
I got to thinking about movies that made me tear up the first time I watched them. I know, you will probably think differently. So let me know what films made you snot up.
5. Beaches
I don’t actually like this film all that much. I think Bette Midler is one of the most annoying people on the planet. But, the first time I saw Beaches, it made me rather upset.
The makers weren’t going to give up until each and every one of the film’s viewers started sobbing, and in a pretty brutal fashion.
4. Bambi
What is it with children’s movies that make people completely devastated? You can’t make a list of “sad movies” without referring to Bambi.
Not only does killing that cute baby deer’s mummy affect little kids, the brutal killing of an innocent animal at the hands of a mean hunter doesn’t go down well for adults, either. Sob.
3. Boys Don’t Cry
Boys Don’t Cry was horrible from start to finish. Right from the beginning you knew this story was going to be horrible and sad and awful. A big reason this was so horrible is because it was so real and is still a issue that is well apparent even in 2014.
The true story of Brandon Teena, a young transgender man who was beaten, raped, and murdered in 1993, is probably too sad for many to get through.
2. Titanic
Like I said, Titanic is bloody sad and I cried when I saw it at the movies. I was only 12 when I saw it so seeing that beautiful man Leonardo Dicaprio die straight after he died in Romeo and Juliet was just awful.
But, as an adult, Titanic still hits home because all I can think of is all those poor people who lost their lives because of a horrid class system that still exists in some ways today.
To not think of the lives and souls of all those people when that boat was built was absolutely disgusting, and it makes me feel so sad inside every time I think about it.
1. My Girl
Cute. A coming of age film about a little girl and her best friend who is a boy and it’s in the 70s and Macaulay Culkin is so adorable. What a load of crap.
My Girl is the most devastating film of my entire life and it was nothing but a cruel joke that made every single unsusupecting kid and adult cry their frickin eyes out for the rest of their sad, miserable lives.
