New Facebook suit launched

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have launched a new lawsuit against Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, a day after choosing not to appeal a decision in the Supreme Court upholding their 2008 settlement, worth nearly $NZ80 million.

In a status report filed with the US District Court of Massachusetts, the twins and their business partner, Divya Narendra, said they would move the court for discovery on whether Facebook ‘intentionally or inadvertently suppressed evidence’ during the settlement proceedings.

The claim relates to a settlement reached in 2008 that was intended to resolve a dispute over the founding of the site between the twins and official founder, Mark Zuckerberg.

The dispute was the basis of the 2010 film, The Social Network.

Facebook’s outside counsel, Neel Chatterjee, has responded to the new suit, saying in a statement, "These are old and baseless allegations that have been considered and rejected previously by the courts.”
