Make-your-own-social-network site Ning has teamed with live-streaming site Ustream to integrate live audio and video into the Ning platform from any device.

With Ustream, users will be able to host live chats simultaneously with their broadcast.

Ning's chief product officer Johathan Shambroom said the company recognised that multimedia, especially video content, is becoming integral to how people participate in social networking. "By teaming up with the leader in live video broadcasting online, Ustream, we're providing our Ning creators with the best-in-class tools to make their websites even more engaging," he said. There are a few live broadcast events planned to help launch the new collaboration, though the only one that hasn't yet aired (as of this writing) is:

  • Borderline Amazing Comedy – Ask Roy Live: Chelsea Handler’s brother, Roy Handler, will do a live version of "Ask Roy,” hosted by fellow BAC comedian, Ryan Basford. Roy will be answering questions submitted on borderlineamazingcomedy.com at 2.30pm New Zealand time.
Kiwi site Ooooby (Out Of Our Own Back Yard) uses ning for their site. See how it works here
