No new iPad in 2011, say component makers

Wed, 13th Apr 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Earlier this year, before Apple had even officially announced iPad 2, rumours circulated the web speaking of in iPad 3 surprise in September, 2011.

Sources in the Chinese component market are now saying that this will not happen.

According to the DigiTimes, sources in the component industry say they have not yet received any notice for next generation iPad products and they do not believe iPad 2 is a transitional product.

The report does say that a next-gen iPad is still at the initial planning stage and that the actual product is unlikely to appear in 2011 – ruling out a September surprise.

Since iPad 2 only launched globally in March, and Apple is still struggling to meet demand, launching an iPad 3 would only eat into potential sales of iPad 2.

"With iPad 2's strong shipment order forecast from Apple, the sources believe iPad 3 will not appear in the short term,” reports DigiTimes.
