FYI, this story is more than a year old

Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi are first off the ranks in offering Microsoft's new Surface Book, the vendor's first ever laptop.

The three retailers, along with the Microsoft Store, began offering pre-orders last week.

The Microsoft Store says the devices, which have an RRP of $2749, will ship by January 28.

The notebook was unveiled last October as something of a surprise announcement from the vendor, alongside updates to offerings including the Surface tablets, Lumia smartphones and Band wearable.

At the launch, Microsoft's Panos Panay claimed the Surface Book ‘is the ultimate laptop'.

“It's the first laptop ever built by Microsoft and it redefines everything of what you expect in a laptop,” Panay said.

The device, with a 13.5-inch PixelSense touchscreen display, features 6th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 and includes a Surface Pen.

The base model includes 128GB hard drive with Intel Core i5.

The company claims the Surface Book is two times faster than a MacBook Pro and is ‘the fastest 13-inch laptop ever made, anywhere'.
