Porn industry to cash in on tablets: analyst
Wed, 13th Jun 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The porn industry has always been quick to take advantage of new technologies, and tablet computers are likely to be no exception.

That’s the conclusion of market analysts Juniper Research, who say revenues generated on tablets will increase by more than five times by 2017, when the devices will account for one third of all adult content subscription spending.

According to the company’s Mobile Adult Content: Trends, Drivers and Business Models 2012 – 2017 report, tablet users are generally more affluent than the average internet user, and are more likely to own a credit card than the average smartphone user.

"Tablets combine the privacy of a smartphone with a large screen, particularly suited for content consumption,” says report author, Charlotte Miller.

"It is clear that, as with many other types of content, users of mobile adult content will want to access content on their tablets as well as on smartphones and PCs.”

The main factor restricting growth will be the fact that most tablets are shared devices, but as the technology becomes more common this trend is likely to diminish.
