If you slide the God of War collection into your PS3 you’ll be prompted to download a patch enabling remote play across God of War 1 and 2.

That means you’ll be able to put the game disc into your PS3, but use the Vita screen and controls to play the game; kind of nifty, but perhaps slightly unnecessary.

All of the shoulder and analog-stick buttons (R2, L2, R3, L3) have been mapped to the rear touch pad of the Vita, which could be convenient or a huge pain in the ass depending on how competent you are with the pad.

This could either be an attempt to make the Vita seem more multi-faceted, which sort of works, or a pre-emptive move to prepare for a potential GOW game for the Vita, which would also make sense.

As well as GOW, the ICO and Shadow of The Colossus collection is also remote-play enabled as of today, so if you own a Vita and a Playstation 3 but not a television you’ll be able to play those too.

OK, so perhaps that comment was a little sarcastic – the Vita does have an extremely high-quality screen, and there are players who prefer touch-screens, so maybe this feature is a little less pointless than I’m making out.

If you do want to play these games on your Vita, just insert the game disc and download the patches, which are extremely small and quick to download. Just remember you’ll need a strong Wi-Fi connection to play the games with remote play, but if you own a Vita you probably knew that already.
