PS4 sales surpass 4 million consoles

Wed, 8th Jan 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The PlayStation 4 has sold over 4.2 million consoles as of December 28th, 2013, according to new figures released by Sony. Microsoft announced earlier that the Xbox One sold 3 million consoles in 2013, but it seems the PS4 has exceeded its rival by 1.2 million consoles.

It is also worth mentioning this number only indicates the number of people that have the system - this does not include the number of gamers still waiting to own one since the console has roughly been sold out everywhere since launch.

Sony also revealed more impressive stats, with PS4 software sales reaching 9.7 million units in 2013. They also announced that PlayStation Plus subscriptions have increased by a whopping 90% ever since the PS4 was released last November.

Sony initially projected that they wanted to sell at least 5 million PS4 consoles by the end of March 2014 but it appears they underestimated the popularity of the console as it could easily exceed this number at the rate it's selling now.
