The Nuvi 255 is the Nuvi 765’s little brother in just about every respect, from the 3.5-inch screen to spoken street names, but with the omission of Bluetooth.

Pros: Like the 765, everything is bright and cartoon style, with a selection of car icons to choose from and an easy-to-understand “where to?” driven interface. Signal lock-on was very quick, as was calculating most of our test routes.

Cons: Our complaints here are similar to those for the 765; road detail, by default, is too low to be really useful, and it had the exact same re-routing error as the 765 did in our driving tests. Spoken instructions were clear enough, but with a rather grating electronic voice.

Verdict: Inexpensive, but there are better entry-level options open to you.
