Top billing in Telecom’s 2009 Mobile Music Awards went to local artist Tiki Taane, who took home the award for Highest Selling Ringtone and Caller Tune (NZ) with his single ‘Always On My Mind’. The awards recognise that digital music sales represent a growing market for the music industry. The value of digital music sales rose by 20% last year in New Zealand, and mobile downloads contributed 44% of the online market. Currently 100,000 full-track singles are downloaded every week via a combination of online and mobile services.Also recognised at the Awards were Smashproof featuring Gin Wigmore for ‘Brother’, and Smashproof also picked up the Most Popular Digital Single Artist (NZ). Lady Ga-Ga was the top international artist, winning Highest Selling Digital Single for ‘Poker Face’, and Most Popular Overall Digital Single Artist.
